i think she petted her because the refusal wasnt entirely the horses fault, and the horse was probably a little scared, so its good she let her horse know that its okay.. otherwise the horse might come around again and be afraid of it..

ugh that's a load of shit it doesn't matter the age as long as their fit and are trained they can jump- i rode a pony named kougar that was almost 25 and he jumped 4'6 courses! he could jump like an effing rabbit so who ever thinks that because the horse is kinda old your really gay because it doesn't maatter-obvie you dont know much about horses- so shut it! and i have alot of horses and some of them are kinda old- and they jump perfect- like they just came back from the trainers ! soo ..yah

lol, the reason she did that was because you jumped before your horse, you expected her to do all the work but she didnt. Just sit up more, and drive her to the fence and wait till you feel her push up before you fold or go into two point.
